On March 19th, School of Foreign Languages and School of Liberal Arts jointly hosted the "Building the Peak" Forum on the construction of literature discipline, with Vice President Professor Chen Hong chairing the forum. Professor Li Chongyue, Dean of School of Foreign Languages, Professor Ren Xiaofei, Dean of School of Liberal Arts, Professor Wu Peng, Dean of Overseas Education College, and about 20 key faculty members from School of Foreign Languages and School of Liberal Arts participated in the forum.
Chen Hong demanded that the disciplines in the School of Foreign Languages and the School of Liberal Arts belong to the category of literature discipline. They should deeply understand and implement the "Building the Peak" Action Plan for discipline construction proposed at the fifth party congress of the university. They should seize the great opportunity for the prosperity of the university's philosophy and social sciences, find out their own deficits in the authorization of a Ph.D program, get united to make breakthroughs in one of the four disciplines: Foreign Language and Literature,,Chinese Language and Literature,International Chinese Language Education, and Country and Region Studies in the next round of doctoral program authorization. Chen Hong also made suggestions about how to promote the construction of the literature discipline in the near future.
At the forum, Ren Xiaofei interpreted the "Implementation Plan for the Action of Building the Peak of Academic Disciplines" released at the First Joint Conference of Presidents, Directors and Deans in 2024, and reported on the progress of the construction of academic disciplines in the School of Liberal Arts; Li Chongyue reported the "Plan for Improving the Influence of High-Quality Theses" issued by the Joint Conference, and analyzed the shortcomings of the disciplines in the School of Foreign Languages in the light of the latest basic conditions for doctoral program authorization; Wu Peng shared his thoughts on advancing the Literature discipline for a successful doctoral program authorization.
All the academic backbones at the meeting spoke freely, expressing their opinions about the construction of the disciplines.
